Mikasa Autumn Eclipse, dressed herein her winter finery, is a Morgan mare who will be 22 years old in 2008. She came to live with me a week after her sixth birthday. We have covered a lot of miles together since then. Some of them, I was on her back; some of them I sat behind her. (If you ask Autumn, she’ll tell you she much prefers being a driving horse). In addition to having given me so much of her time on the roads and trails, Autumn has given me three beautiful Morgan babies.
Despite her years, Autumn continues to be an energetic working horse. The wind whistles past my ears as she launches into her big Morgan trot. She has had no major illnesses, lameness or injury since I have owned her and I attribute much of that to her careful care and feeding. She has eaten only grass, hay and Blue Seal feeds for all the years we have been together. (Except, of course, for the carrots, apples and peppermints to which any well-loved horse is entitled!) I have been very fortunate right from the start of my partnership with Autumn to have had the help and expertise of the people who own and work for our local Blue Seal dealer. They have always been able to answer my questions about feeds and feeding, especially as Autumn went through her pregnancies and raised her babies. All of them got started right on Vintage Mare and Foal, as Autumn consumed it through her lactation.
As Autumn gets older, we are making the switch to Vintage Senior to keep her in top shape for as long as possible. It’s a simple way to give back to her for all she has given me.
